How many hours do you sit a day?
Global studies show, on average, we sit 7.7 hours a day, and some results estimate people sit up to 15 hours a day. You can calculate how many hours you are sitting each day here. It’s a fun questionnaire. I filled it out, and it said that I on average sit 10 hours a day.
Sitting is slowly killing us.
A medical journal study showed that people who sit for most of their day are 54% more likely to die of a heart attack. One simple habit that could change everything about your life is to switch from sitting all day at work, to standing. It’s so simple, and because if it, you could add years to your life.
One simple way to help impact your health as a youth pastor is to either switch from a sitting to a standing desk, or go entirely to a standing desk.
Here are 3 options to switch to a stand up desk at work.
- Ikea’s sit/stand desk. This is the desk for you if you don’t want to fully commit. It’s cheap, and you can hand crank it to the height you want. If you are tired of being at your desk for hours, you and lower it to have a seat. This is a great option and is completely affordable.
- VARIDESK. This thing is sweet. It’s also fully adjustable to sit or stand. One of the best things about the VARIDESK is that it sits on top of your own desk. You don’t need to buy a whole new desk. You can keep your old desk, and add to it.
- Oristand. You really can’t beat $25 for a stand up desk. This is so cheap and the reviews are all pretty stellar. There isn’t a ton of workspace on the cardboard, but you get what you pay for. This is definitely a youth pastor’s stand up desk.
