Who are the Millennials?

If you’re reading this, there is a 1 in 3 chance you’re a Millennial – someone (according to research) who is between the ages of 18 and 29.  Here is your weekly infographic. We did an inforgraphic awhile ago on the millennials.  Here is another infographic on the millennials.

Here are a few things that stand out for a youth worker:

1. 75% are on a social networking site.  This is why it is so important for youth workers to have a social media policy.  I know a lot of conversation has been about not facebook friending students.  If you believe those stats you will use facebook as a strategy to reach teens.

2. 1/5 of millennials have posted video online.  They are all about being online.  This could be a dangerous thing.  Everything we do shouldn’t be posted online.  With that said, I think that this has huge possibilities for the church in trying to reach teens through video.

3. 25% of millennials are without religion.  I am not surprised by this stat.  America is heading to a post evangelical nation(note: I am canadian, and my city has a 5% evangelical popluation).  Ministry is more in need than ever.

Those are a few things that stood out to me while I read that infographic.  What stands out to you?   Leave a comment below.

What stands out to me is millennial’s are now working in ministerial roles at churches across America. Which means two things to me: (1) the face of Christianity is going to be changing rapidly within the next few years, and (2) millennial thought is now going to be shaping the next generation of believers. It will be fun to watch what Christ is going to do with my generation!

Thanks so much for sharing.  Online stuff is HUGE.  I agree that adult leaders must connect (wisely and safely of course) with this age group on line.  It’s where they live and language they understand.
