Economy of Love: Creating a Community of Enough

Finding great resources for youth ministry is a difficult thing.  I stumbled across this resource from a young adult in my church, and I was instantly captivated by it.  I have read other works by Shane Claiborne.  One must read book from Shane Claiborne is,The Irresistible Revolution: Living as an Ordinary Radical, it put him on the map as a Christian author and speaker.  This isn’t your typical book, so don’t expect to read it as a typical book.  The study guide you see on amazon goes along with a dvd series.

The layout of the book is stunning.  Graphically, House Studio has done an amazing job.  It isn’t overloaded with text, but has a balance of text and graphic layout.  One of my favorite parts is the video transcript breakdown.  I hope to see this more in youth ministry publishing.  See below for what I mean.

The write up for the book states the purpose,

America thrives on a simple message that what we currently have is not enough. Not big enough, not nice enough, not fast or hip enough.
The American Dream is based on wanting more. But does God s dream for the world look like the American Dream?
In this five-week study, unpack what the patterns of God s kingdom look like compared to the patterns of our world. What is the value of enough, and how do we become more like the God who is close to the poor, the hungry, the meek, and the merciful?
Economy of Love will challenge individuals to join in community, journeying together as they begin to consider a new standard of living a personal economic threshold oriented not around the size of a monthly paycheck, but around the value of enough.

One of the downsides of this book is that you need to purchase the dvd to go with the book.  I really wish publishers would charge a little more for the book, and have the videos as direct downloads at the back of the book.  I do not want another thing to buy.  Just package it all together and sell it as one.  Is the purpose to sell the dvd or the book?

This is a great resource.  What a great message to send the teens in our youth ministries.  I am really proud of House Studio.  I stumbled across them just recently, and I am excited to review a few of their books coming up.
