Do you use social media in your ministry?
Let’s be honest! You don’t need it. You do not need facebook, twitter, youtube or whatever else you are using.
I have a rule when it comes to social media. If it doesn’t create more face to face contact then I won’t use it. I barely use twitter in a ministry setting. I use it personally because it is a great way to connect with my grade 12’s. I don’t just use social media because. I think this is the danger with the internet. If you don’t have a plan it will sap your time and make you ineffective as a youth pastor/leader.
Here are 3 reasons why your youth group doesn’t need social media:
1. You don’t have time for it. Guess what! Running a facebook page, a twitter profile, website, and youtube page is a lot of work. Get off the internet and go hang with some teens. Trust me your ministry will be better for it. You could ask some teens or leaders to own a facebook page.
2. You can’t do it well. Teens are picky. They have the whole world accesible at one click. If you can’t set up your social media well don’t do it.
3. It is taking away from your ministry. “I just spent 20 hours setting up a youth ministry facebook page!” I hope I never hear that from a youth pastor. Facebook won’t save a soul. Go and do what God has called you to do!
