Accredited Online Colleges emailed me this infographic this week and I thought it would be awesome to share it with you!
There has been a lot of conversation lately about delayed adolescents, and is youth ministry the cause of of the american church’s juvenilization? Here is an awesome infographic on how this generation is stuck at home, and might offer some insight for youth pastors why this generation is stuck.
Here are a few things that stand out :
1. 1 in 4 have more debt than savings. We need teaching materials on money. We need to teach teenagers that we are to be stewards of our resources which include time and money. I am going to review a really cool book in two weeks called, The Money Experiment: A Community Practice in Financial Simplicity. This is a great book, and the thing I like about it is that it is all about how we actually manage money.
2. 1 in 2 parents spend more than $5,000 per year per each child covering everyday expenses. Youth Pastors need to work with parents to help their adult children develop a budget and live within it. I am shocked by this. Are parents enabling their children to live beyond their means? I would say, yes!
3. 75% of millennials use some form of social networking. How can we get them unstuck? By moving them where they are at. When I was a teenager everyone would hang at the mall, or on msn chat! Now everyone is always on facebook. We need to build into our youth ministries a plan to create more face to face contact, and less screen to screen contact.
