The church today is constantly struggling to adapt to reach different generations.  We are slow to change our models and therefore we are struggling to attract and engage with younger adults.  This coming generation is shifting from the values that have shaped our culture for the past few decades.

Are you aware of what the millennial generation is looking for?  Are you aware of what generation Z is looking for?  As youth workers we need to understand the culture to speak the gospel into the generation.

Here is an infographic called: Inside the Millennial Mind.  It’s worth checking out.   Here are a few things that I think we need to be aware of.

The Key Values Are Different.

Millennials have inward focused values like Happiness, and Discovery.  We need to help these Millennials discover who Jesus is, and not just preach at them.  I hear some preachers that I follow online often say things like, ” Don’t just believe me, read it for yourself in the Bible.”  Statements like that help the Millennial discover for themselves what is really true.

They Are Passionate.

This generation is looking for shared experiences.  One of the most successful things I have done with millennials is away trips.  Creating trips that they can only have with your youth ministry or church.  These have been missions trips, concerts, and camping trips.  These are ways to create a one of a kind experience for this person.

Millennials are passionate, and want to follow someone who is passionate.  If you aren’t passionate about what you are doing, they will know.  Be passionate about Jesus, and they will follow your lead.  They are looking for something to live and die for.
Those are two things that stand out to me about this infographic on Millennials.  What stands out to you?
