Freebie Friday: Sermon Series on Technology.

When was the last time you heard a great sermon on how to we should use technology?

Last summer I was running 3 times a week and each time I go for a run, I will listen to a sermon.  I stumbled across this sermon series from The Meeting House called, Rage Against the Machine.

Here are some great quotes from the series:

The average age a person first views porn is 11.

The effects of technology do not occur at the level of opinions or
concepts. Rather, they alter patterns of perception steadily and without
any resistance.
— Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man

We may well find that if we are to fulfill God’s mandate on earth, we will
need to communicate less often so we can communicate more. We will
need to forsake the ease and the pace of quantity for the reflective
significance of quality.
— Tim Challies, The Next Story: Life and Faith after the Digital Explosion

Over the past three decades, digital technologies have powerfully
changed our lives. They are woven into the very way we
understand and relate to the world around us. We are now a
digital culture. We are no longer who and what we were just a few
decades ago.
— Tim Challies, The Next Story: Life and Faith after the Digital Explosion

With the exception of alphabets and number systems, the NET
may well be the single most powerful mind-altering technology
that has ever come into general use.
— Nicholas Carr, The Shallows: What The Internet is Doing to our Brains

What to do with this sermon series:

1. Listen to it.

2. Form a small group with your adult leaders and go over the questions each week.

3. Create a small group for parents online to listen to the series and create discussion online.

4. Change your youth ministry to encourage more face to face connection!

I hope this helps your youth ministry.  Please let me know how this goes!
