youth ministry prayer

Developing a facebook prayer strategy!

Do you have a facebook page for your youth ministry?

I know that recently facebook has come under some scrutiny for how they allow you to share information from pages.  I still think this is one of the best ways…yes ways (you still need to communicate through different streams) to communicate today to teenagers.

One of my friends share with me awhile ago a strategy that he used for facebook.  What he did was pray for one student every morning, and the day before he would ask the student who he was praying for the next day for prayer requests.  This youth pastor said it was an amazing experience, and the students loved knowing that their pastor was praying specifically for them.  This youth pastor also said that a lot of teens opened up and shared things that he never knew they were either struggling with, or were dealing with.

So, I am going to start this up next monday.  I will update this post to let you know how this experiment goes.  I am excited to get to know the students in my church better.  Once I go through the students in 55+ days, I will move on to the parents in my youth ministry.

So here is my plan:

1. Pray for one student a day!

2. Ask the day before what are some prayer requests and explain what I am doing.  The facebook message will go out each morning at 9am!

3. Continue until all students in my youth ministry facebook page are prayed for.

4. Move on to parents!

It is a simple prayer plan for facebook.  What do you think?  Would this work in your youth ministry?
